Automated Operations

The consultancy services provided for automated operations fall into two categories. The methods and automation tools or software used will vary from environment to environment, depend on the product or the “event” to be automated and also the requirements of the customer. A number of software products already include their own automation functions or facilities.

Basic Automation

Automating the starting and stopping of systems/sub-systems including interfaces or “connections” to other systems/sub-systems. The majority of organisations, but still not all, have now accomplished basic automation.

Advanced Automation

What is covered by “advanced automation”? That depends almost entirely on the requirements of the customer i.e. how far does the customer want to go and how much does he want to invest in automated operations? There is little limitation to what can be automated and automation can be relatively “intelligent” i.e. taking action based on a number of complex, inter-related conditions or events, both internal and external. However, the most honest question should always be “is it worth it?” Such a decision obviously depends on the customer, the “event” to be automated and how critical that “event” is to the customer.

Here are some examples of advanced automation
